Electrification of Tuticorin – Chennai line
Southern Railway has sent proposals for doubling and electrification of Tuticorin – Chennai line as per the directions of the Railway Board, he said.
Regarding electrification of Tiruchi - Villupuram section, he said the SR had sought concessional tariff for power and was awaiting the Tamil Nadu government's approval.
Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu has sanctioned Rs 28 crore for improving passenger amenities, he said. Facilities including AC dormitories and touch screens would be introduced at Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Puducherry, Madurai, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Virudhunagar stations with this money.
Surveillance cameras would be installed and bomb disposal squad would be strengthened further.
