Boat race organised in Tuticorin

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadres celebrated the 59th birthday of party General Secretary Jayalalithaa with pomp and gaiety in Tuticorin on 4th March.

Celebrations began in the morning with cadres breaking 59 coconuts on the beach road.

A boat race and swimming competition were conducted at the inshore waters at Threspuram, one of the busiest fishing hamlets in the State.

In all, 14 country boats fitted with motors took part in the race. Each boat, having three to seven fishermen in it, covered a distance of seven miles.

As many as 72 people participated in the swimming competition. The prizes were distributed by the former Minister, Anitha Radhakrishnan. N. Chinnadurai, Chairman of District Panchayat, and N. Suresh Kumar, municipal councillor, were present.
