Madurai - Tuticorin Railway line to be Electrified next Year

Speaking to journalists at Vellore Cantonment on Sunday, Union Railway Minister for the State R Velu said that the ministry would upgrade 334 stations in the country. Electrification of the tracks would be given priority in the Tenth Five Year Plan, he said and added ‘‘According to the prime objective of the Five Year Plan, the ministry has given approval for the electrification of 167 km in Villupuram-Tiruchy route.’’

The 147 km Tiruchy-Madurai would be given approval in this fiscal, while that of Madurai-Tuticorin and Maniyatchi-Nagercoil railway lines would be given approval in the coming years, he said.
