Tuticorin City Solid waste management project to be augmented
The Tuticorin City municipal council meeting held on 21st March, decided to augment the ongoing solid waste management project on an outlay of Rs.8.5 crore during the next financial year.
Municipal Chairperson R. Kasturi Thangam said: "The administration would establish lights, compound wall and introduce windrows method of waste treatment, at the compost yard situated at Tharuvaikulam all at a cost of Rs 1.95 crore."
Besides, sanitary landfills would be set up on 15-acre plot situated inside the 25 acre-compost yard at Rs.3.80 crore.
A total of 300 tricycles would be purchased at Rs.84.6 lakh.
The remaining amount would be utilised to buy 25 bins. "Of the total project cost envisaged, Rs.6.8 crore would be obtained as grants from the Central Government, Rs.85 lakh as the State Government grants and the remaining Rs 85 lakhs would be taken from the corpus earmarked under the urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns," Ms. Thangam said.
