BSNL commissions WiLL-BSC in Tuticorin
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has commissioned a ‘Wireless in Local Loop Base Station Controller’ (WiLL-BSC) here to enhance the quality of telephone connectivity in the district.
N.R. Natarajan, General Manager, BSNL, said that the BSC would function on the latest Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology, enabling the transmission of data through ‘spread spectrum’ modulation in which information takes larger bandwidth.
“This application ensures superior performance for personal communication systems in any ‘interference dominated’ environment,” he said.
With the introduction of WiLL-BSC, broadband services up to a speed of 600 kbps could now be provided in WiLL telephone connections too. “We have now decided to give 10,000 more WiLL connections in the district with the establishment of the BSC,” he said adding that “at present, there are 12,000 WiLL connections”.
He said that plans were in the offing to increase the capacity of WiLL connections by another 3,000 before the end of the third quarter of this financial year.
To widen the broadband network, a 32-connection capacity broadband exchange was set up at Servaikaranmadom near Tuticorin City recently. “Customers in the area could submit their applications immediately to obtain broadband connections,” the GM said.
