Mock drill on disaster management held in Tuticorin
The Fire and Rescue Services Department conducted a mock drill on disaster management techniques was held in Tuticorin on 15th February, to create awareness of the methods, which should be followed, at the time of calamities such as tsunami, earthquake and cyclone.
The drill named Service and Rescue was held at the Fishermen Colony near the sea adjacent to the Tuticorin Port Trust Guest House.
A team of officials led by R. G. Jeyakanthan, District Fire Officer, demonstrated the steps that should be followed as soon as the region received warning on tsunami.
The firemen exhibited techniques involved in evacuation of large number of people including children, aged persons and physically challenged people, quickly. They showed how to rescue people as well boats that got washed away by tidal waves using ropes.
Search and rescue techniques that should be adopted to save lives of people from debris, soon after an earthquake, was also displayed.
