Tuticorin Fishermen keep off sea

About 500-odd fishermen owning country boats at Threspuram, one of the busiest fishing hamlets in the state, kept themselves off from the sea here on Thursday. They were protesting against the exorbitant commission levied by the auctioneers operating at the fishing landing centre situated in Tuticorin.

According to the fishermen, the auctioneers had increased the commission on the catch from 6.25 per cent to 10 per cent recently.
