153 nominations rejected in Tuticorin district

A total of 153 nominations were rejected in the district after the scrutiny of 12,026 nominations submitted for the oncoming civic polls was completed here on Friday.

Official sources said that of the total 6,969 nominations submitted for the post of village panchayat ward members, 81 were rejected, while 25 out of the total 1,922 nominations filed for elections to the post of village panchayat presidents were rejected.

The election officials have accepted 1,287 nominations out of the total 1,310 filed for the post of Town Panchayat ward members.

Of the 604 nominations received for elections to the Tuticorin and Kovilpatti municipalities, 15 were rejected owing to non-compliance of official norms.

Similarly, six out of the total 1,014 nominations filed for the election to the post of panchayat union ward members and two out of the 78 nominations filed for the post of district panchayat ward members were rejected.
