45 houses for tsunami victims in Tuticorin

Forty-five houses constructed for tsunami-hit families at Periyathalai near here were declared open by Animal Husbandry Minister P Geetha Jeevan yesterday.

The houses were constructed by the state government on a 2.17 acre plot at a cost of Rs 83.25 lakh with financial assistance from Churches Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA), an NGO.

Each house has a plinth area of 435 sq ft. The district administration said road, sewage and street light facilities would be provided at a cost of Rs 12.70 lakh.
