Port Chairman opens new operation theatre in Tuticorin

Tuticorin Port Trust chairman, N K Ragupathy on Friday declared open the operation theatre that was upgraded in the Port hospital here.

In his inaugural address, Ragupathy said that the Port has been registering a consistent growth rate every year. The volume of the cargo handling, Ragupathy said, has also recorded a steady increase. Hence the Port administration has upgraded its infrastructure to meet additional requirements.

The Chairman further added that since the development of the Port depended on its sincere work force, several labour welfare measures have been implemented in the Port area itself.

As part of the welfare measures, the operation theatre has been upgraded at a cost of Rs. 7 lakhs with all the facilities to perform operations round the clock.

The remodelled operation theatre has been said to be installed with facilities to perform various surgeries like general surgery, ENT surgery, orthopedics surgery, eye surgery and plastic surgery.

Further the Chairman said that from October onwards all the inpatients in the Port hospital would be provided with free food. The Chief Medical Officer of the Port, J Sarkar, Resident Medical Officer A Annadurai, labour trustee of the Port, M Gopal and the leaders of all the Port union leaders were present on the occasion.
