Idol immersion peaceful in districts

Amidst intense police protection, 48 Vinayaka idols were immersed in the sea at Terespuram on Sunday.

After being taken out in a procession from the `thavasu mandapam' near Sivan Temple, the idols, including two 11-foot tall idols of Lord Vinayaka, were taken to the sea via First Gate and Mattakkadai.

Following the special puja held at Sangumuga Vinayaka Temple at Terespuram, the idols were immersed.

Security arrangements had been made under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police Y. John Nicholson and the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tuticorin Town, Mohammed Ghori. In Tirunelveli, 30 idols were immersed in the Tamiraparani on Sunday.
