New Buses from Tuticorin connecting Coimbatore, Salem and Tirupur flagged off

3 Buses to Conect Tuticorin with Coimbatore, Salem and Tirupur, at a cost of Rs.11 lakhs each.


The Minister for Animal Husbandry, P. Geetha Jeevan, flagged off four new bus services of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) and State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) at the Tuticorin New Bus Stand yesterday.

Three of the services are being operated by TNSTC from Tuticorin to Coimbatore, Salem and Tirupur daily in both directions. Newly built buses, each costing Rs 11 lakh, have been brought in.

The other daily service, operated by SETC on ultra deluxe bus, is between Eral near here to Chennai via Tuticorin, Aruppukottai, Madurai, Tiruchi, Ulundurpet and Villupuram.

Official sources said that the tariff for Tuticorin-Salem service (via Aruppukotai, Madurai, Dindigul, Karur and Namakkal) was fixed at Rs. 130, while Coimbatore bound passengers would be charged Rs. 117. The fare from Tuticorin to Tirupur was fixed at Rs 106.

Ms. Jeevan said that about 25 demands of bus passengers and various trade associations in the district pertaining to new services and extension of existing services were redressed by the State Government in the last eight months.

R. Palaniyandi, Collector, complimented the TNSTC, Tirunelveli Division, for improving the average fuel efficiency from 4.15 km for every litre of diesel to 5.15 km during the current fiscal.
