Minister disburses welfare assistance in Tuticorin

Minister for Animal Husbandry P. Geetha Jeevan distributed welfare assistance worth Rs. 30.20 lakh to 199 beneficiaries at a function held at Collectorate here on Friday.

Of them, 190 persons received marriage assistance of Rs. 15,000 each under the Moovalar Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Memorial Marriage Assistance Scheme, eight couples got aid to the tune of Rs. 20,000 each under the Inter-caste Marriage Assistance Scheme and one received Rs. 10,000 under E.V.R. Maniammaiyar Memorial Marriage Assistance Scheme.

Ms. Jeevan said so far during the current fiscal, Rs. 92.55 lakh was disbursed as marriage assistance to 617 beneficiaries. Similarly, Rs. 5.40 lakh was given away to 28 couples, who had preformed inter-caste marriage, Rs. 10,000 to a widow for her remarriage and Rs. 2.7 lakh for the marriage of 27 orphan girls during the current financial year.

Collector R. Palaniyandi was present. Later at another function, she gave away free cycles to 104 students and educational assistance worth Rs. 2.37 lakh to 264 children in tsunami affected region.
