Chief Electoral Officer, Naresh Gupta reviews preparatory work in Tuticorin

Chief Electoral Officer, Naresh Gupta, has said that the ongoing exercise of photographing voters for preparation of photo electoral rolls in the district would be completed during the first week of April and the draft rolls would be published in the middle of April.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday soon after reviewing the works for preparation of photo poll rolls, he said 83 per cent of the work was over.

The exercise of deleting the names of electors who were either dead or migrated to other districts, and those who did not reside at the addresses given in the list, published on September 27, 2006, was on and the process would be completed in another 15 days.

"It was expected that about seven per cent of names of electors found in the list would be deleted," he said. "Once the deletion process was completed, the coverage of photo electoral rolls would touch 90 per cent in the district."

The figure was expected to scale further up to 95 per cent at the time of publishing the draft photo poll rolls in mid-April, since steps would be taken to photograph the left-out voters too, as far as possible.

Revenue Divisional Officers of Tuticorin, Tiruchendur and Kovilpatti sub-divisions, S. Karunanidhi, Maruthanayakam and Sudalmani Pandian, respectively took part in the meeting.
