Hostels for SC, ST students opened in Tuticorin

The Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare, A. Tamilarasi, laid the foundation stone for two community halls and inaugurated four hostels for SC/ST students in various parts of the district on 3rd January.

Official sources said that the community halls, coming up at Adi Dravidar colonies in Muthammalpuram and Ottudanpatti, would be established on an outlay of Rs six lakh each.

The Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) would complete the construction of both the halls during the first quarter of the next fiscal (2007-08), the sources said. Of the four new hostel buildings opened, one each was established at Chillankulam and M.K.Nagar, and two at Subbammalpuram, all under Ottapidaram taluk. The Minister for Animal Husbandry, P. Geetha Jeevan, the Collector, R. Palaniyandi, and the Secretary (Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare) to the Government, P.A. Ramiah, were present.
