Minister inaugurates additional bus services
Minister for Animal Husbandry P. Geetha Jeevan flagged off additional bus services in different stretches across the district here on 22nd September.
The additional shuttle services would ply on Vilathikulam-Tiruchendur, Koramballam- Siluvaipatti, Tuticorin-Mappilayoorani, Muthiapuram-Collectorate, Thermal Power Station-Tuticorin town, Tuticorin-Vagaikulam (via Mudivaithanenthal) and Tuticorin-Nazareth (via Malavaraianatham, Chenkulam and Vellamadom) sectors.
Ms. Jeevan said that a water cooler and a separate office for the time-keeper would be established at the Old Bus stand here, as part of augmenting the amenities.
Similarly, a bus shelter exclusively for minibuses would be built at the new bus stand on Tuticorin-Ettayapuram highway.
“The capital required for these development works would be taken from the Tuticorin MLA’s constituency development fund,” the Minister said.
G. Paulraj, General Manager (Tirunelveli region), Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, said that the average fuel efficiency of buses in the region (i.e.) Tirunelveli region presently was standing at 5.20 km. Likewise, operational efficiency of the region had touched 102 per cent during the current financial year. He said that plans were in the offing to introduce two ultra deluxe buses in Tiruchendur-Chennai sector before the end of the third quarter of this fiscal. D.J.
