Rs.6-crore slum works planned in Tuticorin City

Municipal Chairperson R. Kasturi Thangam has said that the administration will take up works on an outlay of Rs.6 crore during the current financial year under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme in the Tuticorin city.

Speaking at a municipal council meeting on Friday, she said the project was aimed at ameliorating the living standards of urban slum dwellers at select localities by providing adequate shelter and basic infrastructure to them at Sundervelpuram, Polpettai, Kandasamypuram, Cruzpuram, Threspuram, Krishnarajapuram and K.V.K. Nagar.

Ms. Thangam said that repair works would be carried out and stormwater drains built along five road stretches on a total outlay of Rs.31.25 lakh before the end of the current fiscal.

Commissioner R. Lakshmi and Engineer S.A. Rajagopal were present.
