'Muslim Women Aid Society’ to be set up in Tuticorin

The Department of Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare is all set to establish a ‘Muslim Women Aid Society’ in the Tuticorin district this month to uplift the destitute Muslim women educationally and economically.

According to sources, the society will be registered shortly under the Societies Registration Act and it will function as a non-governmental organisation.

The activities of the society will be managed by a governing body headed by the Collector, who will be the ex-officio president of the society.

The Project Officer of Tamil Nadu Women Development Corporation will be the ex-officio vice-president and the District Backward Class and Minorities Welfare Officer, will be the ex-officio treasurer.

The other members of the governing body include a honorary secretary, two honorary joint secretaries and three honorary members, all nominated by the Collector from among the Muslim community for one year.
