Two flyovers to be constructed in Tuticorin
The Collector, R. Palaniyandi, held talks with a team of top railway officials from the Madurai Division of Southern Railways in Tuticorin on 18th, as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion at the railway level-crossings across the district.
Regarding the traffic congestion in Tuticorin City owing to closure of three railway gates, Mr. Hemant Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Southern Railways (Madurai Division), said that the Railways had decided to build flyovers at Railway Gates No: 1 and 2 on a cost sharing basis with the State Government.
“The construction of the road overbridge (ROB) at Railway Gate No: 3 have been fast nearing completion,” he said. Mr. Kumar added that the newly constructed railway gate (Gate No: 4) would be commissioned shortly, as soon as the necessary sanction was accorded by the office of Commissioner of Railway Safety (Bangalore circle). Once the Gate No: 4 was opened for the traffic, the Gate No: 3 would be closed to facilitate the completion of ROB project there.
Mr. Kumar said that as part of beautification of Tuticorin railway station, greenery would be established on the premises and entrance to the station would be widened.
He said that the division had finally forwarded the proposal to the authorities concerned to establish ‘cement concrete aprons’ beneath the sleepers at tracks laid at the platforms in the Tuticorin station.
